Spanish pedophile arrested on international warrant

Morocco, June 8, 2013 – Global Times

Spain’s police arrested a Spanish pedophile, pardoned by Morocco’s King Mohamed VI last week, after Morocco issued an international arrest warrant against him, the Moroccan news agency said Monday.

According to the agency, the Spanish minister of justice expressed readiness to cooperate with the Moroccan government to revoke the pardon granted to Daniel Galvan Fina so that he would not be shielded from punishment.

Earlier on Monday, the Moroccan justice ministry said it sent two senior officers to Spain to discuss the matter with their counterparts in Spain.

In September 2011, Vina was sentenced to 30 years in jail after being convicted by a criminal court in Kenitra, near Rabat, of raping and filming 11 children aging between four and 15.

The pedophile, said to be in his 60s, had been among the 48 detained Spaniards who were pardoned by the Moroccan king on Tuesday, the Throne Day, at the request of Spain’s King Juan Carlos, who visited the coastal monarch last month.

In response to sporadic protests that erupted upon his release, the Moroccan royal palace said early Monday in a statement that an investigation was ordered regarding the release decision and that the King sacked the general delegate for penitentiary administration and reintegration.
